Authorities deny reports of possible outbreak of African swine fever near Mahilyow
Veterinary authorities have denied media reports that cases of African swine fever may have been registered at a state-owned hog farm near Mahilyow.
Alena Shybut, the Mahilyow region's top veterinary officer, on Friday described the reports as untrue.
"Today the Uskhod hog farm is one of the nation's best both in terms of the organization of production processes and biological protection," the government's news agency BelTA quoted Ms. Shybut as saying.
The expert stressed that authorities were taking an all-out effort to prevent the virus from spreading to the Mahilyow region.
Belarus has reported cases of the infection in the Hrodna and Vitsyebsk regions, prompting all of the neighboring nations to introduce temporary bans on imports of pork from the country. //
