Russia\'s car recycling tax not applied by Belarus, Kazakhstan so far
A recycling tax on car imports introduced by Russia last year will not be applied by Belarus and Kazakhstan until the Eurasian Economic Commission tells them to do so, Anton Kudasaw, Belarus' deputy economy minister, told reporters in Minsk on May 31.
The recycling tax remains Russia's internal measure, Mr. Kudasaw said. "The matter will be settled in the framework of the Customs Union by a separate act by the Eurasian Economic Commission in accordance with its rules," he added.
Introduced in September 2012, the recycling tax on imported automobiles is viewed as a protectionist measure meant to support domestic carmakers after Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization forced it to lower car import duties. //
