French-owned tool factory opens near Minsk

A French-owned tool factory was inaugurated in the Minsk free economic zone on September 22, BelaPAN reports.

The Bahco Bisov factory is the only producer of industrial band saws for processing metal and wood in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It is owned by France's SNA Europe, which is part of the US-based Snap-on group.

Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakow described the factory as a "high-class, highly efficient, highly competitive manufacturer whose products will be sold not only in CIS countries but also in Europe, America and other continents."

He said that the Belarusian government was interested in the establishment of more such enterprises and noted that up to 200 such foreign-owned factories were expected to be started in Belarus annually within the next five years.
