Defense Minister Maltsaw heads for Tajikistan for meeting with CIS counterparts

 

Belarusian Defense Minister Leanid Maltsaw on Monday departed for Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, where he will attend a session of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers the following day, the Belarusian ministry’s press office told BelaPAN.

The agenda of the session includes some 20 issues, according to the press office.

In particular, the ministers are expected to approve a CIS concept of military cooperation and a plan for the development of the bloc’s joint air defense system through 2015, as well as adopt the Council’s plan of action for next year.

Under discussion also will be the operation of the CIS joint air defense system, ways to improve control over airspace use and the development of cooperation in the sphere of flight safety.

In addition, the agenda includes information support for military cooperation within the bloc and the creation of a database of digital mapping data related to strategic areas, the press office said.
