Organizers say that $260 was spent on BNR anniversary demonstration
The organization of Wednesday’s demonstration in Minsk on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic cost 720,000 rubels ($260), Lyavon Barshchewski, leader of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), told reporters on March 26.
The politician described the amount as “fairly modest.” “But if we managed to gather people with such a budget, that means that people understand the idea of Freedom Day. One also understands that people are beginning, although not yet fully, to feel the impact of the economic crisis,” he said.
BPF Deputy Chairman Vintsuk Vyachorka said that the amount had been spent on renting sound equipment and printing leaflets.
All banners and flags displayed at the demonstration were brought by participants themselves, according to another deputy chairman of the party, Viktar Ivashkevich.
The organizers were offered donations by two retirees during the demonstration, he said. “These are only two people but the development of this self-organization has big prospects. Indeed, one must tell people that no one will do anything without their help. One should not think that the opposition is professionals and stand by observing their actions. This message, in my opinion, must become the main one in preparations for mass events,” Mr. Ivashkevich said.
The politicians expressed satisfaction with how the demonstration had passed off. //
