Two opposition youths grabbed in Minsk hour ahead of BNR anniversary demonstration

Two young opposition activists of Malady Front were apprehended by police in Minsk an hour ahead of the beginning of the opposition’s demonstration marking the 91st anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic.

Anastasiya Palazhanka and Dzyanis Karnow were grabbed in the street at around 5 p.m., with Ms. Palazhanka managing to call her associate to tell about the apprehension. “She did not have time to say why they were arrested or where,” Malady Front spokesperson Tatsyana Shaputska said. “Their whereabouts are not known. Anastasiya’s cell is off.”

Earlier in the day, one more Malady Front member was briefly detained at the Mahilyowskaya subway station. He was forced into a police vehicle where he had a loudspeaker seized, according to Ms. Shaputska.

On Wednesday, police also raided the homes of several members of Malady Front.
