Belarusian weightlifter Kulesha loses 2012 Olympic bronze over failed doping test
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stripped Belarusian weightlifter Iryna Kulesha of her bronze medal from the 2012 Olympics after her sample from the London Games came back positive in a doping retest.
"Re-analysis of Kulesha's samples from London 2012 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and stanozolol," the IOC said on November 21.
Earlier this month, Ms. Kulesha, now 30, was disqualified from the 2008 Olympics, where she finished fourth, after turinabol was found in her sample in a retest.
Ms. Kulesha, who competed in the 75-kg weight class, retired shortly after the 2012 Olympics.
She became the fourth Belarusian weightlifter to lose a medal from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics as a result of doping retests.
The IOC stores doping samples for 10 years to allow them to be reanalyzed when improved methods become available. //
