Lukashenka speaks against “breaking” educational system in Belarus

It is necessary to improve the educational system in Belarus, and not to break it, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said Thursday, speaking at a national conference of educators in Minsk.

“You are aware of my approaches to the transformation, improvement and reform of our educational system,” the Belarusian leader said. “The essence of these approaches is that I’m strongly opposed to breaking and even reforming it, in the full sense of the word.”

The conference brought together about 900 participants. Apart from school teachers, headmasters, university professors and rectors, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vasil Zharko, Education Minister Ihar Karpenka, Health Minister Valery Malashka, Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich, KGB head Valery Vakulchyk, Defense Minister Andrey Rawkow, the chairmen of both parliamentary houses and other members of parliament.
